FilmEU Summit 2025: First Keynote Speakers Revealed!

This year’s FilmEU Summit will take place at NATFA in Sofia, Bulgaria, from June 3-6, embracing the theme CommUnity. This FilmEU key event brings together students, educators, and industry professionals in Film and Media Arts for workshops, film screenings, dynamic discussions, and an artistic research expo. Mark your calendars! 


In this newsletter, we’re excited to exclusively reveal the first keynote speakers. 


On Tuesday, June 3rd:

Dr. Sandra Jovchelovitch (London School of Economics) will explore how communities construct knowledge and navigate shared public spaces in her talk on "Community" (10:15–11:15 EET).

Eduardo Souto de Moura, a Portuguese Pritzker Prize-winning architect, will discuss "Designing the Educational Spaces of Tomorrow" (14:30–15:00 EET), reflecting on the future of learning environments.

FilmEU’s Joint Bachelor in Film receives a positive quality assurance evaluation!

FilmEU’s first Joint BA in Film, Pathfinder, has completed its first-ever quality assurance evaluation under the European Approach. Held at IADT, the review gathered international experts, students, and faculty to assess the programme's academic excellence. The initial findings were highly positive

FilmEU at the High-Level Meeting on European Universities Alliances

FilmEU played an active role in the recent high-level meeting on European Universities alliances, reaffirming its commitment to shaping the future of higher education in Europe. Key representatives contributed to discussions on innovation, collaboration, and long-term sustainability.

   
   

FilmEU WP5 Collegium Awards two new mobilities

The latest call has granted mobilities for librarian collaboration (NATFA, Bulgaria) and advancing the Joint EDI and Support Office (IADT, Ireland), fostering intercultural exchange and professional development.

   

Recap of the Annual FilmEU Challenge: Production Week

68 FilmEU students gathered in Brussels, Vilnius, and Lisbon to create short documentaries on "LIFESTREAM: our relationship with water." Collaborating in international teams, they captured unique stories. The students are now in the editing phase, and we can't wait to see the results!

   

FilmEU AGORA Think Tank: Shaping the Future of AI in Film & Media

From March 10–14, LUCA School of Arts in Brussels hosted FilmEU’s AGORA Think Tank, where students and academics explored AI’s impact on future jobs in film and media. Led by Dr. Alexander Gerner (Lusófona University), the three-day workshop featured expert talks, debates, and hands-on sessions, culminating in a position paper on AI’s role in creative careers. Stay tuned for the official release!

   

FilmEU Supports FDU Students in Serbia

As proud CILECT members, FilmEU supports the students and faculty of FDU Belgrade in defending academic freedom, creative expression, and fundamental rights.

   

We welcome three new FilmEU Joint Masters!

ReSound explores sound in culture, society & creative industries. AISS focuses on AI solutions, sustainable societies and participatory design. DocNomadsPlus is the follow-up to DOCNOMADS, now with LMTA as a new partner, offering an International Joint Master in Documentary Filmmaking. Applications for DocNomadsPlus are still open until April 24th.

   

FilmEU Dynamic Clusters – Call for Proposals 
FilmEU invites interdisciplinary research teams to apply for seed funding (up to €15,000) to drive innovation in pedagogy and educational technology.
   

Report on the outcomes and transformational potential of the European Universities initiative

The European Commission's latest report highlights FilmEU as a model for transnational collaboration in higher education. Recognised for its innovative initiatives, FilmEU exemplifies the transformative potential of European Universities.
