Dear $[UD:FIRST_NAME||]$,

We hope you're finding some time to relax, reflect, and recharge this summer. It’s also a great moment to catch up on what’s been happening within FilmEU, and that’s exactly what this newsletter offers.

A key highlight of the past months was the 5th annual FilmEU Summit, and we’re excited to share some of its outcomes, along with new calls, updates, and news from across the alliance.

A throwback to our yearly FilmEU Summit!

In the first week of June, NATFA hosted the 5th FilmEU Summit in Sofia, Bulgaria. Under the theme CommUnity, the summit brought together students, educators, researchers, and industry professionals from across the alliance. Alongside keynotes and a Future Campus session, the programme featured a range of workshops exploring collaboration and shared values in European cinema. A highlight of the week was the launch of the very first FilmEU Film Festival, where students from partner institutions submitted their animations, documentaries, and short films.

DocNomads Plus Master's Programme Approved for Erasmus Mundus Funding!

The DocNomads Plus master's programme was recently evaluated and approved by the European Commission in the competitive selection process for the renewal of funding for Erasmus Mundus joint master's programmes. This approval guarantees the programme's continued status as a European quality standard for documentary film studies, achieving a score of 89 out of 100.

Led by LUCA School of Arts (Belgium), the consortium also includes Lusófona University (Portugal) and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre – LMTA (Lithuania), providing students with a unique international experience, with compulsory mobility between the three countries over four intensive semesters.

The European Commission's decision is proof of the programme's excellence, which stands out for its artistic, practical and multicultural approach to documentary filmmaking. The new version will continue to attract applications from around the world, promoting diversity, creative collaboration and critical thinking in the world of cinema.

Two new projects in the FilmEU cosmos!

C-Accelerate Plus is an EIT HEI initiative that empowers our arts HEIs across Europe to embed innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of education. Seven FilmEU partner universities are joining forces as full partners, building further on the success of the original C-ACCELERATE project (2022–2024).

The FilmEU Association is proud to announce its participation in Cutting Edges, a new and transformative project in film education that leverages Virtual Production (VP) and generative AI. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between VP studios and educators, enhance professional skills, and develop a network for training future VP professionals.

IADT hosted the inaugural FilmEU+ Joint EDI and Student Support Office Collegium

IADT hosted the first FilmEU Joint EDI and Student Support Office Collegium (13–15 May), launching the new Collegium Initiative with partners from across the alliance. The hybrid event focused on strengthening collaboration, sharing best practices, and shaping inclusive, student-centred strategies for the future.

FilmEU at European University Alliances Conference

FilmEU and IADT joined key EU stakeholders in Dublin to shape the future of European University Alliances, highlighting joint degrees, mobility, and sustainable collaboration across institutions.

A big congratulations to all our recent graduates!

This June was especially momentous for the students of our Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters: Kino Eyes, RE:Anima, and DocNomads, who celebrated their graduations in Tallinn, Espoo and Brussels.
